Industrial O Rings

Industrial O Rings are one of the most common seals used in machine design because they are inexpensive, easy to make, reliable, and have simple mounting requirements, yet they can seal tens of megapascals (thousands of psi) of pressure.

An industrial O ring is a loop of elastomer with a round (o-shaped) cross-section which used as a mechanical seal or gasket in a wide range of applications. In particular, O-Rings are used for sealing liquid or gaseous systems. A number of different materials (elastomers) can be used for the manufacture of industrial O-rings.

These include:

  • Silicon,
  • EPDM,
  • Polyurethane,
  • Neoprene,
  • Viton,
  • Nitrile / NBR,
  • Chemrez,
  • Kalrez,
  • and more.

The material and cross-section chosen for the Industrial O Ring is selected based on the application and the environment in which the O Ring is used. Each of the materials listed above has a slightly different set of properties like thermal or chemical resistance, elasticity etc. and therefore will more suited to particular applications. Our engineers can help you with the selection of the ideal O-ring material or other seals or gaskets for your system.

Industrial O Rings are designed to be seated in a groove and compressed during assembly between two or more parts, creating a seal at the interface. The joint may be static, or (in some designs) may allow a small amount of motion between the parts and the o-ring. Rotating pump shafts and hydraulic cylinders would be examples of this. Joints with motion usually require lubrication of the o-ring to reduce wear. This is typically accomplished with the fluid being sealed.

ATC specialise in large quantities of O-Rings in materials such as NBR, SR, Viton, Silicon, amongst others. We can offer any size or colour depending on your requirement.
